Main Districts

City Centre

In the city centre, around Karl Johans gate (the main street) you will find an array of bars, restaurants and shops. Many of the city’s top attractions are also located here including the Oslo Cathedral and the Royal Palace.

Grunerlokka

This bohemian area is popular amongst young, fashionable people, with a number of trendy shops and second hand stores.

Oslo West

Traditionally the western side of Oslo has been a more expensive place to live than the East. Luxury apartments and expensive boutiques line the streets.

Oslo Architecture

Oslo Opera House

A prime example of modern architecture, Oslo’s Opera House is one of the city’s main attractions. You can climb the building to the top, on days with good weather, to witness breath-taking views of Oslo.

Royal Palace

 Next to Karl Johans Gate you will find the Royal Palace, constructed in the 19th century it is one of Norway’s most impressive buildings. Visitors can buy tickets for tours of inside the Palace.

Vigeland Sculpture Park

 Located in Frogner Park the Sculpture Park has more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland.

Where To Go Out

  • Stratos: Only open in Summer this rooftop bar offers amazing views over Oslo to enjoy whilst you sip your cocktail.
  • Mono: Mono is generally an Indie Live music bar, the small bar, however, attracts many regardless of the act due to its unique interior and close proximity to the central station.
  • Café Sor: In the day time feel free to visit Café Sor, where you can enjoy a coffee or something off the popular menu. In the evening see the café transform into a vibrant cocktail bar, hosting regular quiz nights and Salsa dancing.

Free walking tours of Oslo’s city centre run every day at 10:00am. The tour lasts 1 and a half hours and covers the main attractions Oslo has to offer. The tour begins outside the metro station Jerbanetorget.
