How long should I go for?

Tallinn’s magnificent Medieval Old Town and great nightlife make the city a popular weekend getaway or stopover on a bigger trip. I’d recommend staying at least two nights, so you can stroll through the Old Town at a leisurely pace before hitting up Tallinn’s nightlife!

Major attractions include the medieval Toompea castle, the orthodox cathedral & the Lutheran St Mary’s cathedral. Tallinn’s atmospheric Old Town oozes character and is a great place to stroll and soak up its history! If you’re after a drink, a coffee or some food, this is the place to head to!

This district is just 2km from the centre and is served by regular buses & trams. Attractions here include the spectacular Kadriorg Palace and the Art Museum of Estonia. Founded by Russian Tsar, Peter I, Kadriorg Palace is one of the coutnry’s best displays of Baroque architecture.

For a 360 degree view of the city and a change of scenery, make sure you include Tallinn TV Tower on your sightseeing list. You’ll also find the botanical gardens in this district too. The botanic gardens, just outside of the city, are a nature lovers dream. The picturesque gardens are home to thousands of plant species, some of which are the most unique in Estonia.

Tallinn Airport is located just 4km from the city centre and has good public transport connections to the centre and further afield. Several budget airlines fly to and from Tallinn, including from the UK, so if you’re starting or ending your trip here, you shouldn’t have any problems whatsoever. From the airport, catch tram no 4 or bus no 2 to the city centre. Tallinn also has excellent bus and train links with neighbouring countries and it’s port receives thousands of ferry passengers every summer making the city a hive of activity.

Getting around:

The best way of getting around the old city is by foot. Buses and trams are the best way to get around the rest of the city. All public transport operates with the same tickets.
