Our Northern Europe route is a fast-paced tour of Europe’s most popular destinations. Experience authentic European backpacking, travelling with a small group of likeminded people, staying in hostels and travelling on public transport with an experienced guide.
You’ll have between one and three nights in each city, making this the ultimate way to experience lots of famous European landmarks in a short amount of time. With unmissable included activities and an exciting library of optional excursions as well as plenty of opportunities for self-guided exploring, this is the ultimate way to experience all that Northern Europe has to offer.
Travelling with you throughout, your tour leader will ensure your trip goes smoothly; making sure you arrive in each destination safely. They’ll also co-ordinate essential and optional activities such as walking tours and pub crawls- not to mention making sure you’ve got a cold beer waiting for you upon arrival in each hostel.

You’ll have one to two nights in each location, with plenty of time to explore historic sights, culture, nightlife and more. There’ll be unmissable activities which are included in your price – but there will also be other optional activities on offer. We’ve also included a few free days throughout your trip, so that you can chill out and do whatever you fancy.
Throughout the trip we’ll hang out as a group at least once in each city for drinks – you’ll be travelling with other likeminded travellers, as well as your dedicated tour leader.
Your tour begins in the magical city of Copenhagen- Danish capital and the home of ‘Scandi cool’. You’ll meet the rest of your group and your Tour Leader in the late afternoon at your first hostel. If you need an extra night before your tour starts to fit in with your flights then you can add this at check-out.
Wander down to the harbour to experience the colourful heart of Copenhagen or drink at one of the city’s many bustling microbreweries. In the evening, you’ll join your new travel buddies to take on the Copenhagen pub crawl- be sure to sample a traditional Danish Pilsner or two along the way!
Kick off your second day with either free time exploring the city or one of our two incredible optional activities- marvel at the luxury of the renaissance Rosenborg Castle or enjoy stunning aerial views of the city from the viewing platform of Our Saviour’s Church. Then, why not grab some lunch at the Reffen Street Food Market before exploring the weird and wonderful Superkilen Urban park? In the evening, take a river cruise where you’ll get the chance to see the famous ‘Little Mermaid’ statue before heading to Tivoli Gardens- the world’s second oldest and most exciting amusement park.
For your last morning in the city, why not pay the city’s lush botanical gardens a visit? Grab some snacks there before your train ride to Stockholm!

Train to Stockholm- 5.5 hours
Hallå Stockholm! Home to cobbled streets, breath-taking architecture and unmissable activities, this vibrant city is not one to miss. After checking in to your hostel you’ll have time to explore your latest destination, wander the streets of the Old Town down to the harbour or head into central Stockholm to grab something to eat.
The next day begins with an included trip to the Skansen open-air museum, giving you the perfect opportunity to lap up some old Swedish culture before optional activities begin that afternoon. From there visit the Vasa Museum and learn the bizarre history of the world’s most sophisticated 17th-century warship or live your Swedish popstar fantasy with a trip to the world-famous ABBA museum. Spend your evening chilling out in the hostel bar and chat with your group or go for food at Mälarpaviljongen, a floating restaurant on the Riddarfjärden waterfront*.

Night Ferry to Helsinki – 18 hours
Arrive in the world’s happiest city feeling refreshed after chilling out in the night ferry’s onboard sauna.
After dropping your bags at the hostel, your group will head to the Helsinki Skywheel to experience breath taking 360-degree views of the city skyline. You’ll then head to the small islands of Suomenlinna, Vallisaari and Lonna on an included island-hopping tour. Discover hidden underground passages, impenetrable sea fortresses and rare wildlife native to the Helsinki coast. That evening wind down with some free time and go and grab a beer or two at the traditional Liberty or Death pub.
Before the end of your trip, why not try a relaxing Finnish sauna experience at Kotiharjun, the only traditionally wood-heated sauna in Helsinki? Alternatively, take some free time to further explore the city.

Night Ferry to St Petersburg – 15 hours
Your stay in Russia begins with a guided tour of the city, giving you the perfect opportunity to marvel at classic Russian architecture. You’ll also have the chance to visit the Mikhailovsky Castle, the Saviour on the Spilled Blood and the Summer Gardens before stopping off for borscht at Dachniki- a traditional Russian restaurant. Those who want to fully immerse themselves in the Russian experience then have the option of two further fantastic experiences: Sample local vodkas and beers on the St. Petersburg City Pub Crawl or take a night-time boat trip around the city to wonder at the raising of the Drawbridges.
You’ll start the next day with some free time to explore. Visit Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, Winter Palace, The Hermitage, Marble Palace and end the afternoon at the stunning Field of Mars Park. Lovers of ballet will already know that St. Petersburg is home to some of the world’s most incredible displays.
On your final morning in the city, take some free time to chill in Yusupov Gardens, enjoy the flora of the garden and have lunch in the surrounding restaurants. Then, check-in for your night ferry to the first of the Baltic states- Estonia!

Night Ferry to Tallinn – 14 hours
Welcome to Tallinn! A fairytale town of red-bricked rooftops, historic Estonian culture and incredible food.
After dropping your bags at the hostel your group will embark on your first incredible included activity for the city- the TV Tower. Enjoy stunning aerial views of the country’s coastline and, if you’re feeling brave, get an optional ticket to do a tethered skywalk around the tower’s roof. Arrive back in the city to some free time- either explore the Stroll around the Old Town, seeing Aleksander Nevsky Cathedral, the view from Toompea Hill, and Kadriorg Palace or take an optional tour of the city’s KGB Prison Cells.
In the evening, wander around the artistic Telliskivi Creative City area and pop in for a drink at one of the local pubs.

Bus to Riga – 4.5 hours
Riga is a vibrant cosmopolitan city- with twisting gothic spires, cobbled streets and a vibrant youth culture, this is a city which has something for everyone.
Kick off your tour with a trip to the House of the Blackheads, admire the opulence and decadence of the inner building before some free time to explore the city. Why not have lunch and chill at Zviedru Varti – a local Latvian restaurant, before wandering the Old Town and visiting Vermanes Garden, the oldest public garden in the city of Riga. Hoping to sample some local beers or explore beyond the Old Town? Book on to the optional Riga Explorer or Beer Bike tour before spending the evening chilling in the hostel bar.
It’s then on to your final destination of the tour- the fabulous Vilnius!

Bus to Vilnius – 4.5 hours
After arriving in the Lithuanian capital, drop your bags and head straight out to make the most of your last stop. To start, head to the Museum of Illusions, wander the upside-down rooms, marvel at the light shows and get lost in the hall of mirrors before making your way out for some free time. We recommend walking the city centre on foot to see landmarks such as Vilnius Cathedral, the Gate of Dawn, St. Anne’s Church, and the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
In the evening, you will head for an included farewell dinner at Berneliu Uzeiga, a traditional Lithuanian restaurant, before heading out for a few drinks around the old town with your group. Complete your last overnight hostel stay before saying goodbye to your travel buddies the next day- at least for now!
If you’d like to have some extra time to explore Vilnius, or to fit in with the most convenient flight times, then you can include a night of post-trip accommodation before heading to the airport the following day.
