If you love yourself an epic journey, The Road to Athens is for you. Travel from one end of the continent to the other, all the way from London to Athens by train in 4 weeks. Although it crams in a ton of sightseeing and nightlife, the pace is still leisurely – giving you plenty of time to explore. Top it all off with a healthy dose of chill time at the end of your journey. If that’s not enough, why not add our Greek Island hopping trip onto the end!
Travel the continent from top to bottom
On our 4 week Road to Athens adventure, you’ll explore Europe from one end to the other. Starting in London, travel all the way down to the Greek capital – and beyond if you choose! Experience Western, Central and Eastern Europe with this 29 day adventure – with plenty of time in each city to delve below the surface if you choose
Start your trip at your nearest UK station, and then hop on-board the Eurostar to begin your journey. Alternatively, pick the Road to Athens up directly from Amsterdam if you prefer to fly into your start point. Explore this stunning city, filled with culture, great food and – of course – nightlife. If all that means you wake up a little late in Amsterdam, don’t worry! The joy of interrailing is that a lot of your journeys are open. So you can change your plans at the last minute and take a later train on to your next destination!
Next up is the cosmopolitan German capital – Berlin. It’s the European city that never sleeps. Carry on to Prague for gorgeous Gothic scenery by day, and long, pilsner-fuelled nights. Next, head south to classical Vienna, the music capital of the continent, before making your way up the Danube River to the fairytale capital of Slovakia. Explore Bratislava’s quaint city centre, beautiful castles and questionable communist architecture, before moving on to bohemian Budapest.
Enjoy this historic capital’s gracious architecture, spacious parks and awesome party scene. After one too many in the Ruin Bars, recuperate at one of the world famous spas, before heading to the station to catch your night train. Next you’re heading on to Brasov, in the heart of Transylvania. This hidden gem is home to paprika-laden stews, pastel-perfect houses and – of course – Dracula’s place (also known as Bran Castle!). Leave Brasov and it’s just a quick hop over to the Romanian capital – Bucharest. Visit the crazy palace of the people, and spend a lazy day shopping in the old town.
Say goodnight to Romania – and wake up in Bulgaria! Enjoy the melting pot that this capital city brings – Sofia has everything from Turkish spice markets to Russian inspired churches. For your penultimate spot, you’ll hit up Thessaloniki, the sea-side Greek city that packs a punch – especially when it comes to food. Indulge yourself in incredible Greek seafood – but go easy on the Ouzo – you’ll want to save that for your last stop.
Finally, you’ll reach Athens. This ancient capital has a young heart that’s buzzing with energy. From Ancient Wonders of the World to amazing food to cracking street-art and even better beaches, Athens is a place which delivers something for everyone. Spend 4 nights chilling out by the sea before your trip comes to an end. Fly back from Athens to London, or head out to the Greek Islands to continue your Odyssey…

We had a fantastic time interrailing around Europe in July 2019 thanks to this company. The communication was excellent, fast replies and no ask was too much. We must have changed our route 5 times and they accommodated everything we asked for. We mainly dealt with Tolly but all of the staff we spoke to were friendly and enthusiastic. Booking through this company took the stress of organising away from us. All of the documents arrived well in advance of our start date, and the personalised booklet they include with train times/maps/tips/phrases is a game-changer! So unique and we were constantly using it to refer to. We had never stayed in a hostel before this and we were slightly apprehensive but all of the hostels were spotless, great atmosphere and in safe areas - we requested a private dorm room and this was sorted for us immediately. They even upgraded us to some hotels when it made no difference to the price! I priced the trip up independently and Euroventure was the same price/cheaper in some respects. Definitely recommend and will be booking again!

Did the 3 week Eastern Europe tour and it was amazing! Couldn't recommend Euroventure enough! Took all the hassle out of travelling, particularly for someone as unorganised as I am! All the hostels were clean, comfortable and friendly. Our tour guide Dave was great too! Knew all the good places to go to, even gave us a free walking tour in Prague. Couldn't do enough for us. Thanks everyone involved!

Just recently got back from the Iron Curtain tour and already have post tour blues! I enjoyed the trip immensely, met some fab people and felt like I laughed the whole week. I liked using euroventure as having everything planned out in advance took all the stress away compared to if I planned it myself. Big shout out to our tour leader David who was great to hang out with. He made the transitions between places and cities very easy and stress free. His sarcastic wit and humour made my week. He also had great knowledge on the sights we visited. The itinerary was jam packed with activities to do. Would highly recommend using Euroventure, will definitely be using them again!
