Why should you get Travel Insurance?

Exploring Europe by rail is an incredible adventure, but sometimes, unexpected events crop up before or during your trip that mean you may not be able to complete your holiday. That’s where travel insurance comes in handy, protecting your plans and giving you extra peace of mind.

From family emergencies to flight cancellations, we always recommend taking out travel insurance before your trip as we’d hate for you to lose out should anything happen before you travel or whilst you’re away! With the right policy, you’ll be covered for any unexpected costs incurred.

We know that travel insurance might not seem necessary and that the admin process isn’t as exciting as your upcoming trip. Fortunately, by getting travel insurance you can be sure you’re doing the best you can to cover yourself against a number of situations before and during your trip. So, we recommend that you get insured as soon as you book if you aren’t already covered by annual insurance, or as part of a family insurance policy. Then you won’t have to think about it again, hopefully!

The Reality of Multi-Destination Travel

When you’re visiting multiple countries in one trip, you’re exposed to more variables than a standard holiday. Different healthcare systems, varying costs, multiple transport connections, and diverse regulations across borders all increase the potential for things to go wrong. For example, a lost passport could derail your entire itinerary. Travel insurance helps you navigate these challenges without compromising your adventure or your budget.

What Could Go Wrong?

Medical Emergencies
Healthcare costs vary dramatically across Europe. While some countries offer reciprocal healthcare agreements, these rarely cover everything, and you could face substantial bills for treatment, hospital stays, or emergency repatriation. A simple accident or sudden illness shouldn’t leave you facing thousands in medical expenses.

Lost or Stolen Belongings
Moving between multiple cities and accommodations increases the risk of losing luggage, having valuables stolen, or misplacing important documents. Quality travel insurance can cover replacement costs and help you get emergency documents sorted quickly.

Trip Cancellations and Interruptions
Life is unpredictable. Family emergencies, illness before departure, or unexpected events can force you to cancel or cut short your trip. Without insurance, you could lose everything you’ve paid for your passes, accommodation bookings, and pre-arranged activities.

Why It Matters for Your Euroventure

Your multi-destination rail adventure is a significant investment of time and money. We’ve planned your route, booked your accommodation, and perhaps you have already dreamed about that first coffee in a Viennese café or sunset view from Santorini. Travel insurance protects that investment and ensures that if something does go wrong, you can get help quickly and get back to enjoying your journey.

What to take with you

Once you’ve purchased your policy, we recommend you either print your policy out to take with you, or write your policy number down together with the phone number to make a claim, and carry it with you. Remember that you should notify your insurance company of any potential claim within 24 hours and always provide supporting evidence where possible, like receipts, airport lost luggage forms, police reports, and doctor’s notes.

As per our terms and conditions, we’re not able to cover anything that occurs during your trip that is out of our control, so please make sure that you look out for yourself and take an interrail travel insurance policy out as soon as you can!

Be sure to read all of the terms, inclusions, exclusions and limits of your policy, as not all policies suit everyone’s particular travel needs. If you have any queries about the terms and conditions, just give the insurance company a call and they’ll be happy to assist!
