London and the rest of Britain used to have a rather unfortunate reputation as the home of stodgy British grub, but a lot has changed in the last 20 years. Nowadays London is considered one of Europe’s gastronomic capitals, catering for everything from fine dining to street food, and covering as many different cuisines as you can imagine.

Breakfasts and Brunch:

Grain Store, Kings Cross – This industrial chic eatery is reasonably priced and serves a range meat and vegetarian brunch options.
The Breakfast Club: Iconic London chain of brunch restaurants. Prices aren’t extortionate (though not exactly cheap) but prepare to queue if you’re headed there on Sundays! Their poached eggs, pancakes and fruity treats are famous across the city.

Fancy:

Bistroteque – Upscale restaurant serving inventive and beautiful food, with weekend brunch options. Go for a special occasion – why not make it a champagne brunch for a treat!

Afternoon Tea:

Don’t miss out on this most British of traditions – head to the Fan Museum in Greenwich for the quintessential afternoon tea with a less than extravagant price tag. £7 gets you two pots of tea and clotted cream scones, and you can sit in the museum’s beautiful garden Café, overlooking the beautiful parkland of London’s Greenwich.

Fancy:

The Ritz – the height of Georgian sophistication, the Ritz is the ultimate icon in London Luxury. Perfect service, charming surroundings and gourmet delights aplenty. Splash out on this once in a lifetime experience.

BiBimBap – Chinatown is always a great bet for an authentic and inexpensive meal. You’ll be spoilt for choice but we love Bibimbap’s delicious Korean food. As the name suggests, South Korea’s national dish is their specialty, but the dumplings and stir fries are equally delicious and very reasonably priced. You can easily have a tasty meal for under £15 each.
Anime e Cuore – Italian food as it should be, simple, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced. That’s what this restaurant in Kentish town is renowned for, and we recommend it whole heartedly – you can even bring your own wine!
Camden Lock street food – head to Camden Lock to discover the amazing and quirky markets, and pick up a dish of something delicious from the street food market. We love the Caribbean food at Mama’s Jerk Station.
Berber & Q – for a trendy take on Middle Eastern fare, head to this Hoxton restaurant where vegetarians are meat eaters are both well catered for, and prices are reasonable.

Fancy:

Bull & Last – this is a classic British gastropub, with delicious and locally sourced ingredients creating fantastic upmarket dishes. Perfect for Sunday Lunch, London style – compliment the cozy atmosphere with a local pint of ale.
Duck and Waffle – The UK’s highest restaurant, Duck and Waffle provides a modern take on classic British food, with small plate options so you can order a selection to taste while you look out at the amazing view.

Drinks:

Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden – a relaxed roof terrace boasting a quirky covering of grass, as well as views of both the London eye and the Houses of Parliament. With beer and cocktails from fairly reasonable prices, this Southbank
haunt gives you the best of both worlds.
The Harp – A tiny little pub hidden away off Trafalgar Square, The Harp retains its period charm and collection of real ales. It’s not too touristy and welcomes locals and visitors alike.

Fancy:

The Churchill Arms – for one of London’s most charming and celebrated pubs, look no further than The Churchill Arms in Kensington. Don’t expect a cheap pint and it does get busy, but with it’s Ivy covered exterior and rustic charm it’s a perfect example of the great British pub tradition.
The Lost Angel – A Clapham institution, the Lost Angel has mastered the art of delicious cocktails with elegant British flavours.

Borough Market – near Tower Bridge, this market has become a hub for foodies with its multitude of tempting local produce as well as street food and interesting international wares.
Brick Lane – the ultimate destination for a Great British Curry, Brick lane is multicultural, arty and bohemian. If curry isn’t your thing, head to Spitalfields Market just nearby to sample from the selection of other international street foods there.
Brixton Village – another delicious market with an array of casual eating options – nestled away down Electric Avenue, you’ll find masses of tiny restaurants each with their own character and signature dish.
