Our Budapest to Split route is a fast-paced tour of some of Eastern Europe’s most popular city and coastal destinations. Experience authentic European backpacking, travelling with a small group of likeminded people, staying in top-rated hostels and travelling on public transport with an experienced tour leader.

You’ll have between one and three nights in each city, making this the ultimate way to experience lots of unique European landmarks in a short amount of time. With unmissable included activities and an exciting library of optional excursions, as well as plenty of opportunities for self-guided exploring, this is the ultimate way to experience all that this part of Europe has to offer.

Throughout your journey, your dedicated tour leader will ensure a seamless experience, from city-hopping to cultural insights, making sure you arrive safely and have the freedom to make the most of your European adventure. Budapest (2 Nights)

Welcome to Budapest! You’ll meet your tour leader and the rest of your group at the hostel in the early evening.

What to Expect:

Budapest beckons both day and night, offering a wide spectrum of experiences. Immerse yourself in its unique nocturnal world by exploring the hidden ruin bars scattered across Pest. These once-decrepit structures have been revitalised into independent restaurants, bars, and markets, serving some of the city’s finest food and drink.

Included Activity:

  TBC We’re still working on finalising your included activity in Budapest – but you can expect for it to be along the lines of a pub crawl!

Suggested:

  Szechenyi Baths: Immerse yourself in the luxurious Szechenyi Baths, a thermal oasis that’s been a local treasure for generations.

  Explore Budapest’s Eclectic Markets: Dive into Budapest’s quirky markets and shops, where you’ll discover unique treasures.

  Visit the Hungarian Parliament: Marvel at the architectural marvel that is the Hungarian Parliament, a symbol of the city’s rich history and grandeur.

Bus to Ljubjana – 6 hours

Ljubljana (3 Nights)

Nestled in the heart of Slovenia, Ljubljana is a vibrant capital city that effortlessly blends history with modern European charm. With its lively streets, friendly locals, and an abundance of green spaces, Ljubljana promises an enchanting experience.

What to Expect:

Ljubljana is a city that whispers tales from its past as you stroll through its romantic Old Town. A harmonious blend of rich history and modern vitality, it invites you to explore its inspiring architecture, bustling riverfront eateries, and a nightlife that tempts you to dance the night away.

Included Activity:

  Day Trip to Lake Bled: This emerald-green lake, adorned with a picture-postcard church on an islet, a medieval castle perched on a rocky cliff, and the stunning Julian Alps as a backdrop, is a true gem.

Suggested:

  Postojna Cave: Delve into the mesmerizing depths of Postojna Cave, a subterranean wonderland of limestone formations and underground adventures.

  Vipava Valley: Embark on a journey to the renowned Vipava Valley, a haven for wine enthusiasts where you can savor some of Slovenia’s finest wines.

  Ljubljanica River: Take a leisurely boat ride along the scenic Ljubljanica River, providing a unique perspective of the city.

Train to Zagreb – 3 hours

Zagreb (1 Night)

Welcome to Croatia! It’s just a short stop here, but enough time to get aquainted with this lovely city.

What to Expect:

Zagreb effortlessly combines tradition with modernity. This city is a treasure trove of European culture and civilization, where quaint street markets sit between chic restaurants and a vibrant nightlife scene.

As this is a short stopover, there is no official included activity in Zagreb. Don’t worry though as we’ve added an extra one in Plitvice!

Suggested:

  Museum of Broken Relationships: Visit the intriguing Museum of Broken Relationships, a fascinating display of love and heartbreak.

  Dolac Market: Wander around the red umbrellas at the bustling Dolac Market, soaking in the lively atmosphere and checking out the many things on offer at this vibrant hub of Croatian life.

  Mirogoj Cemetery: Explore the serene beauty of Mirogoj Cemetery, a peaceful place steeped in history.

Bus to Plitvice – 2 hours

Plitvice (3 nights)

Plitvice, nestled within the rugged landscapes of Croatia, is a natural haven of extraordinary beauty.

What to Expect:

Plitvice promises a sensory feast for nature lovers. From the soothing sounds of waterfalls to the sight of fish darting through crystal-clear waters, this destination offers an enchanting experience amidst stunning natural scenery.

Included Activities:

  Visit to Plitvice National Park: During your stay in Plitvice, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the awe-inspiring Plitvice National Park. Explore the park’s cascading lakes, dense forests, and pristine landscapes, immersing yourself in its untouched beauty.

  TBC: We’re still working on finalising the second of your activities in Plitvice – but you can expect for it to be outdoorsy, taking advantage of this areas beauty.

Suggested:

  Sunset Hike: Starting from your hostel, head off on a relatively short sunset hike to witness this gorgeous area’s transformation under the evening light.

  Pljesevica Mountain Hike: Challenge yourself with a tough hike to the Bosnian Border on a Pljesevica mountain trek, enjoying breathtaking vistas and abandoned Yugoslavian airfields and hangars.

  Mreznica River: Feel the adrenaline as you partake in thrilling whitewater kayaking down the Mreznica River.

Bus to Split – 4 hours

Split (3 nights)

And finally, Split. A charming city along the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, is a delightful blend of rich history, stunning architecture, and picturesque beaches. As the heart of Dalmatia, it brings together the best of Croatian culture and Mediterranean lifestyle.

What to Expect:

Explore the city’s historic center, where Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands tall amidst contemporary life. Stroll along the bustling Riva promenade, relax at Marjan Park, and soak up the Mediterranean vibes on its sun-kissed beaches. You’ll see why Split is quickly making a name for itself as a leading destination in Europe.

Be sure to head to the beach on your final night with the group to watch the sun set over your time in this incredible country, and your trip.

If you’d like to have some extra time to explore Split, or to fit in with the most convenient flight times, then you can include a night of post-trip accommodation before heading to the airport the following day.

Visit to Krka National Park: Set Sail on a visit to Krka National Park, where you’ll witness cascading waterfalls, tranquil lakes, and lush greenery in this breathtaking natural wonder.

  Hvar Island: Hop on a short ferry to Hvar to explore this beautiful island and its vibrant, glamorous culture.

  Marjan Park: Take in panoramic views of Split from the picturesque Marjan Park, offering breathtaking vistas of the city and the Adriatic Sea.

  Konobas: There’s some amazing food and drink on offer here, if you stay clear of the tourist traps. Konobas are small restaurants, often family-owned and run – and where you’ll find what the locals are having – if you can stomach the Rakija!
