Trip Description

La dolce vita or la vida loca?

Span sun-drenched Southern Europe with a route that ties four hot nations together – Greece and Italy, France and Spain. Taking this route around the Mediterranean, you’ll travel all the way from Crete to Palma – not bad for 5 weeks’ work! No matter how long you travel for, the only difficulty will be in deciding whether to explore the city, or sun yourself on the beach first!

Start your trip off in beach-beautiful Crete, Greece’s largest island! With everything it has to offer, you might never want to leave; with white sandy beaches to lounge on, the White Mountains to hike and eerie caves to explore, you’ll have more than enough to fill your 3 nights here! This is even without mentioning the oodles of mythology and rich history that there is to delve into…

Picking your way across Greece, you’ll reach the capital city of Athens. This stunning city is so full to the brim with historical and archaeological sites, that you probably won’t see everything during your stay, but it’ll show you just how much another trip would be worth it! Be sure to follow the locals to an authentic taverna to sink a silky wine or refreshing beer, all soaked up with a groaning mezze platter.

Carry on to Sorrento for rugged coastlines peppered with sandy beaches and the occasional ethereal cove to explore. Here, you’ll find plenty of Insta-worthy views, tasty traditional dishes, and mind-blowingly good limoncello to sip on…and that’s without even mentioning the lively nightlife! With 4 nights here, you’ll easily have time to take a quick trip to Pompeii or Mount Vesuvius, too!

Next up, is the beautiful ancient Sicilian port city of Catania, nestled at the foot of the imposing Mount Etna. Explore its stunning religious sites and fascinating museums for a welcome escape from the heat, or, if you can handle the heat, round off your days here  lounging on its beautiful golden beaches and sampling the delicious seafood specialties on offer by the coast.

Then head to Rome, the Eternal City, and marvel at the ancient monuments which still stand majestic amongst the centuries-old streets, fancifully furnished with sophisticated cafes and piazzas. Enjoy authentic Italian espresso, before tucking into some well-deserved cicchetti, and sampling what the city’s nightlife has to offer.

Next up, you’ll spend a couple of days in the picturesque port town of La Spezia. Not only is this a quaint town in its own right, but it’s also the perfect hub to take a day trip to Cinque Terre! If you do decide to head there, be sure to take advantage of the chance to take in the bright and colourful higgledy-piggledy houses climbing the craggy seaside cliffs of each town.

Then you’ll make your way to the glittering French Riviera. You’ll stay in Nice where a twilight stroll along the Promenade Des Anglais is a must! Rub shoulders with celebrities whilst dining al fresco and breathing in the sea air by the golden city beach. If you have time for a day trip, stop off in Monaco! If you’re feeling lucky, flash your cash alongside the filthy rich at the famous Monte Carlo casino. Who knows, you might even take them to the cleaners!

A short train ride away, Montpellier will be next on your agenda! We reckon that this could be the French Riviera’s most cosmopolitan city, with lively and friendly locals and a cultural melting pot of French influence, with a feel for Spain, and a taste of North Africa.

Soon after, you’ll arrive in Barcelona and discover Gaudi’s cakebread architectural style permeating the city.  The Sagrada Familia is also a majestic bucket-list sight to behold, before spending the day popping into the boutiques and bars on the side-streets off Las Ramblas. Once you’ve reached culture overload, Barca will take care of your night on the town with plenty of clubs to see your through until the morning.

To round your trip off, you’ll take a night ferry to the balmy paradise of Palma! Enjoy laidback island life here and get a load of this little island’s abundant natural beauty; from ethereal caves to unspoiled sandy beaches, you’ll be spoilt for choice on what to see and do. If you think you might need more time to rest your weary and well-travelled bones at the end of your interrailing adventure, feel free to get in touch with us to add a few extra nights onto your route in advance!

My sisters and I had the best trip, we did a variation to the 4 week eastern traveller route and Euroventure were so helpful in making the trip suit our needs. Each hostel was great and in a good location. The info pack was such a great help and an amazing keepsake. The fact all of our travel was booked and set out meant we could spend all our efforts on experiencing everything! We truly had the best time and would 100% recommend to anyone. We’re already looking for our next trip! Thanks again for all your help - Alice, Kailey and Harriet :)

Questions & Answers

Don't see the answer you're looking for?

Question:
What do I get when I book a package?
Answer:
You get all train travel and accommodation included in the price. That is, all train travel between the first city and last city on the trip and accommodation in the best hostels in each city, or in  hotels if you choose this option. For loop trips you also get return train and Eurostar travel from anywhere in the UK to the continent and back, but flights are not included in any of our packages because we do not have airline partnerships. You get breakfast in some hostels too, and can add this as an extra in hotels. You'll also get a detailed itinerary telling you exactly what trains to get and directions to the hostels. So all that's left for you to purchase is flights (if required), travel insurance and spending money.
Question:
Can I go on a Euroventure if I am under 18?
Answer:
Yes, generally you can go on a Euroventure if you or some of your group is under 18, however you must inform us before you book if this is the case. Our partner hostels and hotels have different rulings regarding under 18s, for example some do not allow minors to share dorms with strangers (meaning you’d need to go in a private room with your group, and pay the extra cost), and some don’t allow minors at all, meaning we have to use an alternative hostel. Others are fine to have under 18s as long as they carry a note of permission from a legal guardian. If you’re in any doubt, just ask us for a quote and we’ll let you know if it’s fine for you to travel with us ?
Question:
What are the hostels like?
Answer:
For a detailed article about what travelling in hostels is like go to our hostels guide It’s every traveler’s worst nightmare to arrive in a foreign city with nowhere to stay – that’s why we book and all your accommodation in every city in advance. Booking with us means no nasty surprises – you won’t have to worry about hostels being full or even just being a bit dodgy! All our handpicked hostels are centrally located and within easy reach of public transport.  We only use the best, most modern and sociable hostels along the way which we have personally visited to make sure they’re suitable. Most travelers stay in dorms with other backpackers, unless you’ve specified that you want private rooms, with all the facilities you would expect from a top hostel. Most will have free wifi and lockers. Breakfast is often free and you can also get involved in various activities put on by the hostels, such as pub crawls and city tours. Once you’ve booked your package, we will send you your travel pack, which includes all the information on the specific hostels and how to get to each one.
Question:
What are the night trains like?
Answer:
The night trains are a great way to save time by travelling overnight in a comfortable environment. As far as availability allows, we try to get our customers into individual bunk beds in mixed lockable compartments of 6 people, with bedding included. If you want to travel in single-sex compartments or with fewer people this can be arranged as well at an extra cost. There are toilets located at one or both ends of the carriage and there is a guard that will supervise the corridor, check your tickets and let you know when you’re arriving. Sometimes the guards will take your passport and ticket off you when you get on – don’t panic – this is a safety precaution and they’ll always get them back to you in the morning.
Question:
What happens if I miss a train?
Answer:
We usually offer a couple of trains that you can take in the day. However, sometimes we need to reserve specific trains, so if you miss them, or there are no more trains that day, then you will have to get a new reservation for a train later in the day or, occasionally, the next day in order to catch up with the itinerary. In any case, if this happens, call us and we will try and help you.
Question:
When do I receive my tickets?
Answer:
Once we receive your final payment we will get to work on purchasing your train tickets which don’t become available as early as the accommodation. In some cases, we can’t get hold of tickets until four weeks in advance, so we normally say you should expect your travel pack around 2-4 weeks before you depart.
